The official launch of the partnership between loi19.com and the charity Pieta House took place in a sun-kissed Tallaght Stadium last week.
As previously announced on loi19.com, this website and the charity will team up to promote the latter’s Mind Our Men campaign for the coming u19 season, and to officially launch the partnership six players from the six Dublin clubs were joined by David Mitchell of Pieta House for a photocall at the home of Shamrock Rovers.
Pieta House is a charity which aims to provide an outlet for people who are self-harming and suicidal to go and talk about their problems without having to worry about the added burden of counselling fees. It is free of charge and open to all, making it the only service of its kind in the country.
“From our point of view it’s a great link up because it’s predominantly young males that we’re finding – you’re just hearing stories of towns being decimated with clusters of suicides, and we’re dealing with lads from 19 years of age down to 16 and 17,” Mitchell told loi19.com.
“They’re dealing with it in their own communities, so they’re the guys who are going to be regularly checking the website and keeping updated on it, so if they’re made aware of the Mind Our Men campaign – of the educational material that we have – they might just take the time to read it.”
