Alex Pearce is delighted to have finalised where he will be playing club football next season, with Derby County’s latest signing keen now to focus on the upcoming crunch Euro 2016 Qualifier against Scotland.
The Boys in Green returned to training on Wednesday having been given the previous day off to recharge the batteries as preparations begin to intensify ahead of Saturday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium. The English born defender, just like most of the Republic of Ireland squad, spent his day off in the company of his family.
The 26 year old has signed a three year deal at Pride Park to become one of Paul Clement's first signings as Derby boss, with former Aston Villa striker Darren Bent also completing a free transfer switch having spent last season on loan with the Rams. Pearce admitted it is a relief to get his future resolved and is excited to begin the next chapter of his career.
“It's obviously nice to get it all sorted very early on, it was really nice,” Pearce told assembled media at Gannon Park. “I've been in that situation before when it went on a bit longer, so I was sort of ready for it, if you like.
“But the way it came about, it was nice to get it done early doors. It's a great club that I've joined in Derby, I'm really excited about the future. I've joined a special club.”
